In my last post I discussed the benefit of traveling through gateway cities like Hong Kong and Singapore as a way of adding value to your vacation and leveraging the expense of international airfare.  I’d like to continue that line of discovery and talk about when it makes sense to spend a little more than you would normally be comfortable with spending to truly have a once-in-a-lifetime experience.

Let’s stick with Hong Kong for our discussion.  One of the world’s iconic hotels is the Peninsula Hotel.  I first experienced the Peninsula in the 1980’s and have been captivated ever since by the extraordinary ambiance and character that is reminiscent of one of the Grand Hotels of the last century.  The Peninsula is situated steps away from Hong Kong Bay, world-class shopping, restaurants, and the vibrant nightlife of one of the worlds great cities.

So what am I suggesting?  That a weekend at the Peninsula is worth the premium you will pay over an average Hong Kong hotel.  Typically you are going to pay anywhere from $250.00 and up for a quality accommodation in Hong Kong while a junior suite in the Peninsula may run you twice that amount…but that extra cost will buy you a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will be yours forever.  Don’t believe me? Before you judge, check out this video…

If you are traveling through a gateway city of the caliber of a Hong Kong or a Singapore, breaking your journey for a day or two makes great sense especially if you may not get a chance to return to that part of the world in future.

Splurging on one or two nights at an iconic property like the Peninsula can be a memorable experience well worth the price.

Let our agents give you the benefit of their knowledge and help you identify opportunities to turn a great vacation into an exceptional vacation.
